5 Steps to Improve Your Knowledge

5 Steps to Improve Your Knowledge

If you aren't currently in school, learning something new does not become part of our daily routine. You most likely think how would I have the time? Work, house chores, the kids, and just every day errands, it may not seem like its possible. But, we are here to broaden your horizons and tell you how you can improve your knowledge in your everyday life!

  • Read- Pick out books, newspapers, websites, encyclopedias, anything with information that teaches you something you didn't already know. Play Trivial Pursuit or watch Jeopardy. Learn something new every day. In my opinion, there are no such things as useless facts. If it's part of our world, its worth knowing. Embrace lifelong learning!
  • Listen- Sounds simple enough, but it's so easy to be distracted. Focus on the speaker, if you don't hear it the first time ask the person to repeat it. Make sure you understand what's been said. You will be surprised what you can learn. One of my favorite quotes about listening is "when you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new."- Dalai Lama.
  • Pay Attention- See what is happening around you. According to MENSA, the organization for people with high IQs, current research shows that at least 52% of our intelligence is based on our environment.
  • Exercise- What is good for the body is good for the brain. Exercise for at least 20 minutes can help pump more oxygen to the brain and provide a nourishing environment for the growth of brain cells. Another reason not to put off taking care of yourself!
  •  Get Some Sleep- Our country is chronically sleep deprived, which negatively affects our thought processes. While sleeping our brain flushes out the toxic molecules that build up during awake hours & helps storing information related to motor tasks. So along with "beauty sleep", go for the "smart sleep".

You will soon learn that you are capable of more than you imagined. You will also learn to recognize your limitations. If you know that you don't something, or don't know how to find an answer, you'll know it's time to ask for help.
